Current CHERLab Projects
Health Literacy and Healthy Lifestyle Choices for Adolescents (HL-squared): The goal of this project is to improve adolescents’ health literacy and decision making for lifestyle behaviors by (1) improving the assessment of adolescents' health literacy; (2) designing and evaluating interventions to improve adolescents' health literacy; (3) informing and advocating for policies to meet adolescents' health literacy needs; and (4) to disseminate web-based adolescent health literacy interventions to be used in multiple settings including schools, libraries, and after school programs.
Health Literacy, Mental Health Literacy, and Wellbeing: The goals of this project are to (1) assess the relationships between health literacy, mental health literacy, and well-being; (2) design and evaluate interventions to improve mental wellbeing; (3) inform and advocate for policies to address mental health and wellbeing across the lifespan; and (4) to disseminate manualized interventions to community partners.
Libraries and Health: The goals of this project are to collaborate with public libraries to incorporate health literacy and health in their programming across the lifespan.
Social Justice for Health: The goal of this project is to increase 10-13-year-olds’ critical health literacy skills about their and their community’s health. We will evaluate the 4-week intervention, which includes a Photovoice project and community event. The community event will be sponsored by CHER and our funders.

Caregivers’ Health Literacy and Preventive Health in Families with Young Children: The goal of this project is to improve preventive health behaviors in families with young children.
Decision-Making and Dietary Behaviors: The goal of this project was to explore children's (9 to 12 years-old) decision-making regarding dietary behaviors and develop and evaluate interventions to improve children’s decision-making and health eating.
Evaluating the Achieving Whole Health Program: The goal of this project were to improve mental wellbeing in Asian American adolescent girls through the implementation of a modified Achieving Whole Health Program. The intervention was modified to be developmentally appropriate and gender-responsive to the needs of Asian American adolescent goals.
